From Sailor to Athlete
Al Amin was originally a sailor working on merchant ships for about two years. However a twist of fate come unexpectedly. During a home vacation he encountered a life-changing accident—a cornice of a wall collapsed severely injuring his spinal cord.
This accident initially dealt a huge blow to Al Amin. Doctors told him that after surgery he might never be able to stand or walk again. However Al Amin didnt give up hope. After a year of physical therapy his condition improved significantly. Now he can stand and walk with support demonstrating his strong will and indomitable spirit.
Introduction to Archery
During his rehabilitation Al Amin received treatment at the CRP hospital (Center for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Mirpur). It was there that he was introduced to various sports suitable for people with disabilities such as wheelchair basketball and table tennis. These sports activities helped him overcome depression and regain hope in life.
When the Bangladesh Archery Federation launched the Paralympic archery program Al Amin was selected to participate. As he said “Truly speaking I didnt choose archery rather this sport chose me.” This opportunity opened up a whole new world for him giving him a new dream and goal.
Family Background and Support
Al Amin’s family background is relatively ordinary. His father used to work in a private company in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone but lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now his father works in agriculture. The family’s main sources of income are some savings and support from relatives. Despite facing economic difficulties Al Amin’s family fully supports his pursuit of his sports dream.
Paralympic Goals
As one of the first athletes Bangladesh has sent to compete in Paralympic archery Al Amin feels a great sense of responsibility. He clearly stated that he hopes to win a medal for his country even if its silver or bronze. He said “Bangladesh has never won any medal in the Olympics but if I can do it in the Paralympics it will be great.”
Al Amin recognizes that he needs to improve in several areas including increasing his scoring ability enhancing his strength and improving his concentration. He admits that he sometimes loses focus during matches and needs more training to overcome this issue.

Al Amin’s story is not just about sports achievements its a touching story about overcoming adversity and reshaping life. His attitude is admirable: “I also want to do something for Bangladesh like others I also dream about Bangladesh like you.”
